At six years old, Lee Buhr began his professional journey by becoming involved in construction. He was taught and trained by his father, from whom he learned to have a strong work ethic and whose good example he followed to build his accomplished career. Always striving to do more than expected, he became a certified plumber at 18 years old in 1964 and a certified electrician in 1972, and subsequently spent years accruing experience in general contracting, be it building new homes or remodeling old houses. He has served as the owner and contractor at Mebyer Corporation since 2012.
Over the course of his decades-long career in the industry, Mr. Buhr has been immensely proud of several projects and experiences. Outside of the homes he works on, he takes great pride in the house he lives in, which spans 1,500 square feet and stands as the most energy-efficient house in the state of Iowa. Moreover, he built a new 4,600 square feet addition to the Stanley Union Church—and through his expertise and know-how, the energy bills only went up $39.
An elder at the church as well, Mr. Buhr has dedicated himself to the congregation and the Gideons, of which he serves as president. He also extends his volunteer services to remodeling people’s homes. For more than 30 years, he has excelled as a board member of the Landlord Association. Looking toward the future, Mr. Buhr plans to slow his productivity down while continuing to do what he does best.
